Right now, fire services are part of the City’s General Fund, which is a big bucket that pays for a lot of things. The Fire Fee is projected to generate $10 million/year to be put in a special bucket for the fire department. $2 million of this money would be new money to expand fire services. $8 million would offset the current fire budget in the General Fund, leaving $8 million dollars available in the General Fund for other stuff, and a still unaddressed $3.5 million budget shortfall.
