In the state of Oregon, tax filers making under $75,000/year ($150,000/year for joint filers) are entitled to a tax credit up to $50 ($100 for joint filers) to a political candidate or action committee. That means your $50 donation to Ethan for Eugene can be reimbursed to you, in full, at tax time. It’s not a deduction – it’s a full-on credit.
